Carden in China

Young students at Beijing Haidian Foreign Language Shi Yan School are enjoying learning English the Carden Way!  These are first, second and third graders.  Each class has an English teacher and a Chinese teacher.  The instructors work together so that children understand English words and thought more easily.  They are acquiring vocabulary and using it to listen, speak, read and spell.  English stories, drama, art and games add to the pleasures of their learning activities.

The Carden English curriculum at Haidian begins with Carden 1, then on to Carden 2, and so on.  The student builds on the strengths gained as he or she works at each level.  The core curriculum consists of listening and speaking, speech, vocabulary, reading, spelling, grammar, thinking in English and oral composition, writing and creative expression, literature for children, drama performance, choral speaking and games.  With the improvement of the learner's English proficiency, other courses of Carden such as art, science, mathematics, and computer, will be offered selectively and taught in English.

The introductory phase of Carden in China is a six-year program.  School began in 2001 with first grade as Carden 1.  Each succeeding year as new grade will be added until grade six.

Proficient teachers who use the Carden Method are teaching English.  In addition to their college and university schooling, these instructors have received training by the American Carden Educational Foundation.  This assures parents that their teaching activities are in harmony with the principles of Carden.
